For the Apple TV App, The Zoom Released Videoconferencing

Zoom this week released a new Apple TV app, dubbed Zoom for Home TV. If you are wondering how that works, since the Apple TV does not have a built-in camera, the answer is through your iPhone or iPad and Apple’s Continuity Camera feature. As spotted by AppleInsider, the Apple TV app works similarly to how Facetime works on the Apple TV. To participate in calls, you use your mobile device’s camera, paired with the Apple TV. You can hold your iPhone to handle your audio and video or put it in front of your television on a stand of some kind so it feels like a more natural Zoom call.

The Apple TV app also has calendar integration, and 9 to 5 Mac notes. So you can keep track of upcoming meetings and join them without having to type in those insanely long Zoom codes. By Continuing Camera debuted last year for macOS as a way to use your iPhone’s camera as your webcam. With iOS 17, Continuity Camera added support for starting a FaceTime call on an iPhone and then handing it off to the Apple TV, or just starting the FaceTime call from the Apple TV app.

FaceTime and Zoom are not only video-chatting options on an Apple TV app. In October, WebEx also announced plans to bring its app to the Apple TV 4K and Apple Watch, but it has not launched yet.
